Why does my Genie opener make a loud grinding noise?
Almost always it’s a dry screw-drive rod. Once the factory lubrication wears off, usually after a few years of regular use, the metal-on-metal contact between the carriage and rod gets louder and rougher. Re-greasing the rod with the correct lubricant typically resolves it. If the noise persists after lubrication, it may be a worn drive carriage that needs replacing.
Genie’s newer units integrate Aladdin Connect, the brand’s smart-home platform that lets you monitor and control the door from a phone app. When Aladdin Connect stops syncing, the fix usually isn’t the opener itself, it’s a Wi-Fi range issue between the garage and the router, or the small sensor module that needs a firmware update.
