Every garage door repair we do in Elk Grove Village follows the same process, whether it’s a $150 spring fix or a full commercial door replacement. Here’s exactly what happens from your first call to the final test.
Step 1: The Call
When you call (224) 344-8183, you talk to someone who can actually answer questions about your specific door, not a scheduling script. We ask what’s happening (won’t open, off track, making noise), how old the door and opener are, and whether it’s safe to use right now. If it sounds like a safety issue, like a broken spring or a door stuck partway, we’ll tell you to stop using it before we even get there. Step 2: Honest Diagnosis First
When the technician arrives, the first thing that happens is a real inspection, not a sales pitch. We check the springs, cables, rollers, tracks, and opener, and we explain what actually failed and why, in plain language. If a $150 spring replacement fixes the problem, that’s what we recommend. We don’t push a full door replacement when a repair will do the job.
Step 3: Upfront Pricing, Before Anything Starts
Once we know what’s wrong, you get a real price, not an estimate that changes halfway through the job. If we find something additional once we’re inside the mechanism (a worn cable alongside a broken spring, for example), we stop and confirm the updated price with you before continuing. Nothing gets added to your bill without you agreeing to it first.
Step 4: The Repair, Done Safely
Garage door springs are under enough tension to cause serious injury if handled wrong, which is the main reason this isn’t a DIY job. Before touching a torsion spring, we clamp the shaft and release tension gradually with winding bars, never by force. For cable or roller work, we support the door mechanically so it can’t drop while we’re working underneath it. These aren’t optional extra steps, they’re standard practice on every job. Step 5: Testing and Balance Check
Once the repair is done, we test the door through a full open-close cycle and check its balance, a properly balanced door should stay in place when opened halfway and released. An unbalanced door puts extra strain on the opener and can fail again quickly, so we don’t consider a job finished until this checks out.
Step 6: Walkthrough and Follow-Up
Before we leave, we walk through what was fixed and why, and let you know if we noticed anything else worth watching (a rusting track, an aging opener) even if it’s not something you need to act on today. If anything feels off after we leave, call us back, we stand behind the work.
